Say as an example in conceptual mass I created a rectangular mass which has 1 face on each side. What if I want to divide the top of the face(not talking about the divide surface tab) and make it have 2 faces now how would I do this?

I tried add edge but it only works on the side and it always goes at an angle

ok i created to mass and joined them together so i answered my question...but is there a way to do it without creating 2 then join them?
