I am creating a model for clash detection, and I want to see the ceiling grid in 3D view so that when the light fixtures are installed I know they are not clashing with my grid.

we made a custom PAT file to show up as 24x48 grid for ceiling tiles (search more in this forums for creating custom hatch patterns) and use that as a surface pattern. I suppose you could also just turn on "realistic" and the grids will show up as long as you have your render appearance set up as 2x4 grid.

Thanks so much!

but how do I set render appearance as 2 x 2 in realistic view.

My current problem, is that I am making 2 x 2 ACT ceiling, the 2 x 2 pattern is shown in plan, but in view it shows 2x4 for the same ceiling.

When you assign a material, you can also assign the proper hatch.  If your 2 views do do match, then you have not assigned the right hatch for the material (or you have not picked the correct material).
