I am having really good results with adding brick detail to a window component I am working with on my model. However, I am using extrusions to create the brick detail. My only issue is that I also have keystones. When I try to change the material of the keystone, it changes the brick material as well or vise versa. Can anyone help?

If you join extrusions in a family, they will become the same material. I believe that might be your problem.

how do i tell if they are joined? When i highlight them they are seperate. Also, for some reason the pattern on one of the extrusions will not show up when I import the component to my model. However, the pattern shows up when I am looking at the family while editing it.

If you are still having problems then you don't have a clear understanding of materials. In the family editor, each 3D model element can be assigned a material but the name of the material has to be unique. In the material editor, the material is then assigned the appropriate graphics, render image and identity.
Also, remember this. THE PROJECT RULES! Once a material is defined in the project, it can only be changed in the project. So if you assign the color red to a material in the family editor and load the family, then if you change that material to blue in th family editor, it will still be red in the project. Solution ... delete the family and material in the project and reload, or simply change the material in the project.
