i'd like to put roof tiles on my roof so it looks nice when rendered but not sure how to do so. any ideas?

Well, do mean ceilings? Or applied directly to the underside of your roof? Either is quite possible, but dropping in ceilings is an extra step.
Ceiling tiles, in revit, are just a render material like mahogany or stone. So If you go into your roof or ceiling properties, you can tell the bottommost material to be "12x12 acoustic ceiling tiles" Or something like that. It's a default material that comes with revit, it should be set up to render correctly out of the box.
