I went ahead and mouthed off in a meeting that it would be soooo much easier to import 2D AutoCAD plans into Revit in order to do some renovation room finish schedules for 2400 rooms...and then I imported it and realized Revit doesn't automatically recognize the lines as walls...
Can anyone help me save face? What is the best way to quickly transform 2D floor plans into rooms that Revit recognizes without having to draw room separation lines around the border of each room?

They are going through old AutoCAD floor plans, drawing poly lines around each room interior to calculate area, placing room tags, and then doing a separate excel spreadsheet for room finishes, area, equipment, etc.
I figured if we could import the CAD drawings to revit and just get rooms recognized, the rest would be cake through schedules and room tags. At least it is quick and easy to use the pick lines tool to tab over the interior walls when doing room separation lines.
I wonder if it would be faster to just draw actual walls and never use anything other than plans since we have to deliver updated plans and schedules only.

you can use that same process to draw walls also.

Ok, I thought of something: please let me know if this is possible. So when I partially explode the 2D CAD drawing in revit, I can select all of the lines and filter out only the ones that are on the Wall layer.
Once I have all of those selected, is there a way to convert them to Room Separation Lines?

No, room separation lines cannot be created by converting from another element. They have to placed initially as room separation lines...

Darn. If I could select them with a bounding box to make them room separation lines I could save so much time!
Guess that's one for the wishlist.
