Ive just loaded revit 2011, upgrade from 2009,

when I run 2011 the first error message says "default template does not exist" blah blah, to change the default path from the application menu, select options and the the file locations tab.

I can't find this menu option. where is it.

Also: did I do something wrong. should I have new 2011 library folder, or does it use the 2009 library? What happens to all my parts Ive made in 2009? do they get upgraded?

Your library and template file paths are set using the revit R then the options tab.

Each version has its own library and library maintenance is something you will have to pay attention to.  There is a batch upgrade utility that comes with your program that you can use to upgrade families that you created.  We keep "our" families seperate from the stock library so that we can manage this process and we maintain seperate libraries for each version.

We just put a sub-folder in each category folder for office families.  Then we copy the folder to the new library and upgrade all of its families.
