Almost done creating all my doors utilizing nested families, and I wanted to see if anyone had any helpful input on my last step. I have 6 different door families, and all of them use the same nested door panels.
I am wondering if it is a good idea to purge all nested panels out of the door families, (except 1 as a placeholder for the Family Type Parameter) and leave them within the project template files, referencing them into the families when they are needed within the project.
Pros I see doing it this way:
- File size, door family sizes will be much smaller because the nested door panel families will be stored within the project file.
- Door panel families are treated as seperate entities, more straight forward when creating new types for the different panels.
Con I see doing it this way:
- Cant control family types with different nested panels, users would have to create a new type if they needed a different panel. (I am assuming you cannot use a type catalog to reference nested families stored within the project)
A big part of how I am thinking of doing this at the moment is the skill level of the production people in this office. Looking forward to hearing some thoughts on this.
Thanks,
Chad
