That's because that family was not created to attach to a ceiling, that's why you have that "Circle with the line crossed on it..."

Create a new family, in this case a "Generic model ceiling based" then Copy/past from the "Original" family to the new family and attach that object to the ceiling with the "Align" tool, if that family is a parametric family you will loose some parameters but....

what CAN your ceiling fan attach to? You also might check the library for a "face based" ceiling fan. Be sure to read the details of what you grab.

You need to turn ON the "Daylight portal", search in your HELP menu for that

Yes, with all the ceiling fans for download, I wonder why they werent made to attach to a ceiling!?
I too can not make a ceiling fan work, only get a circle with a line through it.
Thanks

Nothing has changed here.... If you are using a ceiling hosted family and you are working in a reflected ceiling plan, then you will not get that symbol.

I am a 5-year Revit user. OK, no genius. I downloaded the ceiling fan. It is hosted to a ceiling family. It will only let me see it on a floor view when I go to place it. After I place it, I can't see it, using all that I have learned in 5 years. I do what an intermediate user can do. Can't see the fan. So this is not a kiddie issue. Sure, there is probably something obvious I am missing. But with Revit, that is like saying I will need to breath within the next minute. Just a post of encouragement. Thanks for all who have shared.
