I installed Revit Architecture 2012 on a tower no problem, yet when I installed the same program on a laptop I am missing all of the templates and family files. I have tried reinstalling and repairing yet nothing seems to work. Anyone have any suggestions? Perhaps something to do with security settings.

Maybe your default folders are different than where the files actually are, check the folder C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RAC 2012\Libraries. Are there any folders/files in there?
Have you installed any previous versions of Revit on the laptop? Did it have the same problems?

When i go into my computer the folder c:\ProgramData does not exist. However if I run a search I can eventually find it. But I have to really search for it. There is no Autodesk RAC 2012 in there. I installed 2011 just fine yet 2012 seems to be nothing but grief. How can a program install yet be missing all the important components. Perhaps it has to do with my anti virus.

Ah by default the ProgramData folder is hidden..
Go to Start>Control Panel>Folder Options>View tab and check to see if "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" is checked. If it's unchecked than check it and try going back to the C:/ProgramData folder to see if the folder is there with the files inside.
I don't see why an anti-virus or security might be blocking them. But if you cannot find the folder than try reinstalling it as an administrator. To do so just right click on the install file and click 'Run as administrator' and click yes when . If it is a permissions problem than that should do the trick.
Hope that works. Do share if it does

That seemed to do the trick thanks. I had to go in and re path all of the template and family locations. For some reason through I only have metric families and templates. I have always worked in imperial so this seemes a little strange. I am wondering if there was an install option that I didn't have checked, I will have to look into this. Have you every came accross this?

During installation I think there is an option to install Metric/Imperial/Both and it is set to install both by default. But the installations sometimes hiccup so who knows. If you want to re-install it check the advanced or custom options and it should ask you which ones you want to install. Good luck

I had a similar issue, and had to copy the template files from 2011, it seemed to work fine

I found the Imperial templates in a folder called English_I which in turn is found in the Imperial Templates folder. (If you open the English folder intstead, you get the Metric templates, even though you're in the Imperial Templates folder...) The remainder of my pathing is probably different, but perhaps this will help someone find their 2012 templates.
In the Imperial Templates folder, there are also folders for US Imperial and US Metric, which for some reason don't have the family templates in them.
hth.
