Usually for building sections we just draw a filled region to delineate the sectin cut.  I'm sick of that.  Does anyone know how to tell Revit that for a certain material I'd like a different cut pattern depending on the scale?  Take concrete for instance.  At the building section scale (1/16"=1') I'd like the cut pattern to be a solid black fill.  But at the wall section and detail scale (1/2"=1' or so) I'd like the typical concrete hatch for a cut pattern.

Have you heard of coarse fill pattern?  This is seperate from the regular fill pattern and is set in the wall type.  It works for both plan and section views.

You can read about this property in your HELP under: Wall Type Properties

Got it--thanks.  BUT, now I've got this building section at 1/8"=1', and when I set the view detail level to coarse, my concrete beams disappear.  I know that in view properties for sections you can set them to disappear (from your floor plan) at scales coarser than "x", but I can't find that property for components like beams.

fyi for other users: we solved this by first utilizing the coarse fill pattern for regular walls and slabs.  But for some reason, most structural components we ran into (like concrete beams) are set not to show up in coarse view.  Change this by editing the component family and changing visibility settings.  As for the actual cut pattern once it shows up, these components don't have the coarse fill pattern option of walls and slabs.  Select the beam>override>by category>structural framing, then make the cut pattern a solid fill.  This is a view specific solution, so you'll have to do it for each building section view, but it eliminates the need for filled regions and gives you a more accurate view of your current section.

Another option is the all powerfull view filter, create a view template for each section based upon that scale, i.e.- 1/8" Section, 1/4" section, etc.  Using filters, you can override and control the graphic display of your slabs as you say you desire, so if you want it solid in a lower quality scale, you'd override it to be solid, whereas in a finer quality you'd override it with your cute concrete fill pattern.  This is of course IF the course/Medium/fine controls don't work for you, which would be if you need more than those 3 display modes.

Also, your beams disappearing, what discipline are you using?  They typically disappear due to how they were created in the family editor, open them back up, and you will see that their visibility settings is such that they are not visible in coarser detail levels, fix this and then they will show up always...
