I have been asked to draw a structural truss family. Simple enough you say. However, the chords should be in one plane (down the centre) whilst the identical web patterns attach to either side or these. Is this possible? If so how is it done?

Sounds like you want to design an old style truss, that sandwiches the top and bottom chords with web members on the outside. I would make a generic family or even model in place. I would set up 3 workplanes. 1 for the chords, and one for each web face. draw the pieces in the plane in question. You may find it easier to use sloping columns for the web members this way the ends can be cut horizontal and vertical. Good luck.

I think I've found a workaround - however one with issues.

I created the truss family with only one 'layer' of chords/webs. This I copied and aligned to the centre truss. I then deleted the webs on the centre truss and turned off the top and bottom chords on the two outer trusses.

HOWEVER (there's always one isn't there?) the webs in the outer trusses now no longer align to the top and bottom chords. I have no idea why. If anyone has ideas of how to fix this they would be gratefully recieved.
