Ok, Im at home and not in front of my computer but I'll try to explain this.
Im trying to void the bottom of a sphere - think magic 8 ball. But the sphere wont void.
Here is what I am doing:
1. create a mass (solid) in place.
2. draw circle on level 3
3. create mass, pick sphere. Sphere is createdwith bisecting line, i dont do many spheres, i assume line is normal
4. draw rectangle on level 1
5. creat mass (void) - extrude until it intersects a bit of the bottom the sphere
6. complete operation. nothing. doesn't work, the bottom of the sphere is not voided.
I can do this same operation on a 2010 version of Revit and its works, just no my 2012.
Is there a toggle or option Im not aware or is 2012 different in some way?
Help is appreciated.

Just a question, did you used the "Cut Geometry" tool?

I was able to reproudce this problem, but subsequently I've been able to fully cut a sphere several times with a couple of voids. I don't know. I've always been wary of Massing, and stick to the basic modeling tools, revolves, sweeps, etc.

thanks Typhoon. I ended up just doing a revolve to accomplish the shape. But I'll remember the advice.

OK, I solved the problem, watch the videos:
this is in "Conceptual Mass": http://screencast.com/t/pZb04ebm
and this is in "Project": http://screencast.com/t/7VsysVW5WI
Create the Sphere and the Void in a "Elevation view" and not ina "Plan View"
