I've run into a brick wall trying to adjust a house model in the z direction, I get a message saying a model element cannot move in one direction while the other cannot move in another direction. What is Revit trying to tell me? I am trying to adust the model to fit into my topo. I have tried unpinning all elements, and still get the same message
whether in plan view, 3d, or elevation view.

Don't know your exact problem without more information.
Is your problem occuring in a sigle Revit file or linked?
My suggestion though is to never model the building and site in the same Revit file. It is always best to link the building model into a seperate site model. This gives you better control over the model placement with respect to compass alignment and topo alignment.

If you have elements that have been created on a reference plane then they will only move along that reference plane. If you are trying to move the model at 90° to this reference plane, then you will get a message telling you that it cannot be moved in this direction.
The only way I have found to overcome this problem is to break the building down into movable units and move them in incriments and in a direction that can be easily duplicated.
That way you can track down which is the offending item and either move it seperately (for some reason Revit will allow single items to be moved this way that when part of the whole model cannot be moved) or move the reference plane to suit the new position.

I would suggest checking out some of the tutorials onine about changing a building's elevation. You can actually model your topo and building at different relative elevations and without attempting to move the whole building the way you all are talking about, the two can be brought together using relative elevations instead of aboslute elevations. I used to do it the way you all are talking about, which was a real bear. There is also some info. in the help menu in Revit.

The model is not linked, it sounds like i will have to move elements seperately, I'm guessing I would do this by turning off visibility of the elements and moving them one at a time, is that right?
If so I'm going to redo the topo as a seperate file and link them.
Thanks for the help
