I'm trying to figure out if there is any way to put security measures on .rfa file types so that the architect contracting the company I'm working for can use them in his model, but also ensure that our files will not be copied and re-used. I'm pretty sure creating instance only families would work, but then I would have to redraw them everytime and I'd like to just save them to the drive and have them for future use. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Revit is basically an open system - share your file and you share your families. No locks available.
Just something you have to accept.
BTW - You will probably gain as much from others as they will from you. If you share, we all grow, including you.

Thanks for the input WWHub.I personally understand this philosophy, but it is not one that goes over easy with the boss as he is worried about losing money from return business.Anyways, just thought I would check before having to relay this news to him :/

I think this is the same way when you exchange the CAD background with consultants, Is there a way to lock it/prevent other people from using the "blocks" or the linestyle or layers?
NO, so Revit is the same way.
I did come across seeing a third party company which develop a add-on or program that claim they can put copyright info into the family, I never try it but it I guess it is worth investigating it.
I think the company is called CTC
I think this is the link:
http://www.cadtechnologycenter.com/ctc-products.html
So, see for yourself and show it to your boss.

Thanks for the input pchan. After discussing the situation with the boss we have come up with semi-solution I believe. In our general notes we are going to add something along the lines of "the revit familes are property of company and are to be used only under persmission from company".... Sounds fishy to me, but my boss liked the idea so that's what we'll go with. Thanks again for the help! Will be using this site a lot I think! lol going to post on some other peoples questions too.
