Hello all Reviteers,

Got an issue here at the local design firm.  Our client uses 3D CAD and i use Revit MEP on ALL my projects. So, I exported thier plan to IFC and placed the CAD import under the IFC all in Revit.  Once i halftoned the import, the floor plan doesnt look all that bad!! However, what do i do if i need to update my backgrounds? im not concerned with updating the CAD import... thats easy. but how do i update the IFC walls? Should i tell my client that whatever plans we recieve in the beginning r the ones we are going with? that sucks becuase there are always updates!

Also, how do i define room names with IFC imports? just use the ones that show on my CAD import? how do i define spaces?

Anything helps.  thanks a million.

McPike-

i'm sure this is important to you so i'll try to

dissect it one piece at a time- but honestly-

(and of course i'm a little retarded anyway)-

i don't understand very much of what you are

saying..

you sent your client a plan that you created in

revit MEP as an IFC file.. great.. what did they

open it with?

"how do i update the IFC walls?"  you mean like

create a new IFC file of changes you made to

the revit project?

"define room names with IFC imports?" i don't know

that one but i would like to learn more about working

with IFCs myself.. i do know that IFC interoperability

is not well established at this time.. maybe you could

explain a little of the big picture about what you would

like to accomplish with IFC? and hopfully i can learn

something too..

Vector,

Thanks for replying. I guess some one of my explanations didnt make sense becuase i am not really sure of the entire process myself.  What i meant to say is... Is it possible for my MEP firm to do every project in Revit even if the architect is working in 3D CAD? i assume the use of IFC files would be used in the process.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Owen
