I'm really new to Revit, practically teaching myself from scratch on how to use the program, and there is one main thing i cannot get my head around! When we issue our drawings in our office, our symbols for new and existing are differentiated by a hatch style, i.e. - new light is hatched, existing light is not hatched.
In Revit how do you go about showing the same type of power, data, lights, furniture etc. in a new and existing way so that they can be easily read?

just google .pat and there are thousands of
hatch patterns to download.. and then your
next question will probably be how do you
get one of them into revit.. but i'll wait for
you to ask that..

We use phase controls for new vs existing and all existing is shown halftone. You could also control the linework - we show demolished as hidden line.....
Hatches applied in views is a CAD thought process. If you can do it through model VG contol it is far easier - and better.

I would recommend that you absolutly don't insert a CAD titleblock into your Revit titleblock. You need to create true Revit elements wherever you can because CAD will bloat your project and cause many problems.
You have a very simple titleblock here so now is the time to begin. You can insert the CAD and "trace" it ... for now, that may be simplier for you. Then you need to add the text elements using revit text. Adding sheet parameters will be your hardest part because there is a lot to learn ablout parameters.
Download the Families Guide from autodesk. It has a chapter that will walk you through how to create your titleblock.
