All old threads having to deal with this ended and never got a final answer...
I want me exteriopr to be a dark wood, but have vertical wood panels when rendered
I tried changing the pattern, rotating the horizontal wood nothing would work for me when iw ent to render....
So if you have an idea, and can help me i would greatly appreciate it.

Your material has to have the pattern. I used a stock material - horizontal patteren, rotated the 2D line pattern and the render pattern rotates with it. See attached.

I tried this but it never worked...
I picked cheery wood changed the stain color.
i then went to surface pattern picked one that was horizontal then edited that pattern and rotated 90 degrees.
It shows up in realistic 3d view but when i render it does not show the contrats between each... I mean you cant even see a separation or anything.....

You have to select a line in the hatch itself, and roate that line within the hatch, while it's on the surface.
Now that you've tried rotating the image, and that stuff, I'd go back to step one, so you can track where the problem is at, because currently, it could be several things. You might not be able to see the boards...(?) because the bump pattern wasn't rotated when you rotated the image. The bump pattern is another image file that contains some texture, and lines and such that give the image character.
So. Since you're going to go nuts if you have to have multiple materials, duplicated multiple times for all the anglesyou'll need them... I'd really suggest trying as WWhub said, and using one material, and rotating it with a hatch, for control.

And it didn't work? because it should work.
Did you give your material a Model Hatch? a drafting hatch won't work.

My cherry is just a name - doesn't mean anything. You need to pick a material that has a pattern in it, not just color. The hatch is seperate and only represents the pattern in non-rendered views and it controls the rendered pattern's orientation.
So find a material with joint lines in the material!

Itsmy: I did exactly what you said and did it to the model...
WWHUB I figured thats what you meant, ill check later, i guess i can use a random material and just give it a nice stained color to look like wood,.
