Is there any way to generate Gehry-like forms in REVIT? I used ACAD for complex modeling in school andsuccessfully produced some convincing imitations. However, I'm puzzled by REVIT in that when you sketch a roof, it's very one dimensional. I have a feeling that you have to derive the geometry from masses, but how you get there I am not sure. I imagine if you create the roof and get the walls started from the mass, you could then attach one to the other?

You are correct with your assumptions of masses. The advantages of masses is they can be edited and then all associated geometry can be regenerated based on the changes. A mass can contain any geometry. You can import free form nurbs in SAT and DWG formats for use as a base to construct your walls/roofs/floors as required.

I love that ability to create smart building components from masses! Add in the parametric capability-- what a package. However, wouldn't it be nice if you could control curtain sytems created from masses (dtermine if "1" or "2" is horizontal or vertical)...as of now, a door inserted into my mass' curtain system turns 90 degrees sideways. From what I can tell from an earlier post here and one in the Autodesk discussion groups, it is going to be addressed in the next version. Thansk again!

Flattening 3d Forms, CNC Cut Parts I'm modeling a catamaran in Revit as kind of a challenge to myself to improve my 3d Revit skills. I'm wondering if there is a way to flatten the 3d surfaces, so that I can CNC cut them for a scale model? I know Rhino is capable of this, but I'm most skilled with working within Revit. Does anyone know if Revit via a plugin or natively has this capability? I'd like to flatten 3d forms for laser cutting the surfaces. I'm using Revit 2018.
