I'm trying to load a vehicle into my project.  I open the download file and click 'load into project.'  then i have an error come up that says 'can't create this kind of element in this view in the current mode.'

what view do i need to be in?  what mode are they talking about?

thanks for the help!

First question is what view were you in?

Obviously if you are in a non-model view like a legend or a schedule then you can't place a model element.  Beyond that, hosted elements require you to be in a view that works with the host.  Floor hosetd, you should be in a plan view.  Ceiling hosted ... RCP.  Etc.  For most site related items, you want to be in a plan view.

i'm working in the first floor plan view.  the wierd thing is that it doesn't even give me a chance to place the element.  as soon as the vehicle loads into the project it gives me the error.

Sorry but you really don't give us much information.  I don't know anything about a vehicle (which one) downloaded (from where) or how it may be hosted.

But you can switch views and try again.  BTW .... Just because you can see a plan doesn't mean you are in it.

I wonder if this vehicle is done as a conceptual mass, maybe you'll have to insert it while in Mass in-place

the error is normal when you load a family in because revit will go to the first view opened which may be a drafting view or some other non-model view.  If the vehicle family is set to "Entourage" category and you see the vechile in Reveal Hidden elements then you need to turn on that category in the Visibility/Graphics Dialog box.
