i want external shading, fixed to the external wall, around my building.
i have drawn profiles and tryed to sweep them around the path but it just says it cant create the sweep.
i dont know why this is and have tryed drawing the profile in different positions etc. and changing its shape.
has anyone else had this trouble?... and does anyone know how i might resolve this problem?

Need a little more info to comment intelligently (not that I am capable of intelligent conversation) but, is this a single occurance in a project, will the shading be a single
or multiple levels. You say fixed, does the shading actually touch the wall. Does the wall have any other wall sweeps or reveals- fascia, gutters etc. could your shading be a wall sweep? Just a few more details would help to describe the problem.

As long as the shading looks like shading angled louvers it will be fine.
It will touch the wall, and there are no other wall sweeps on the wall.
And it will be on all levels, but i will have to do it seperate for each level as floor area decreases as you go up..
i'l see what i can do for now. but any suggestions would be helpful.

Played around quickly with a profile and wall sweep should work fine. If the wall sweep doesn't activate immediately - switch to a simple 3d mode and see if it will let you place it there. Some issues - are there openings that you want to run the shading in front of. If so, a sweep doen't appear to be the right solution- As the opening will probably cut the sweep. Also, a profile will cause a problem if it requires mutiple horizontal surfaces as a sweep unless it is part of the wall definition. You might be better off to create a wall based family that would let you place a variable length (instance) of the wall louver design you want. and you could also set the distance off the wall with a variable. You could use the variable array option to split the louver vertically that way if you need louver sections. - Would be difficult to do with a curved wall I would think.....

Have you tried in place families? Sometimes these work the best.

currently trying to do it... i've tryed in place families.
i've made a profile and saved it, i'm just seeing if i can get it to sweep round the building now... although i know it will be solid and not how i would preferably want it. but my work has to be in 2moro so i'm just gonna see what i can do!

Got it to work and look reasonably ok.
Starpped for time so i've just created a sweep offset from the edge of my floor slabs.
The Louvers have not got spaces in between and members are not visible, it is simply a generic model sweeped around the edge. but in 3D views and on floor plans and elevations it looks absolutlely fine!
Thanx anyway,

A good way to deal with this is using a railing. Your brackets would be balusters and your louvers would be ralings. This way you can also re-use the louver system you've set up in other places.

I have a similar problem except I want louvres / brise soleil extending out from my roof eaves. A sweep won't work as it isn't attached to a wall, and a railing family seems to require a floor or ground to attach to... I thought fascia with custom profile but then I don't want to louvres to go along the entire roof edges just certain sections.
Suggestions?
Thanks, E Burrell

you can set the railing to be either by host or flat or sloped. In other words, it doesn't have to be attached to an object.
