I get a "no go" symbol when I try to measure in section...is this normal?

You can measure in any view except 3D or perspective.

I know that. but I use the section tool to draw a new section, and I get the circle with a slash through it. What does that mean? How could it be a 3d or camera view?

Are you using the measing tape or the dimension tool? the dimension tool (aligned) will only measure things when they are parallel but the measuring tape can measure things even they are not parallel

So I took a screen shot. Take a look at the image and let me know if you see anything wrong with my settings..I want to measure the top of wall from floor to the roof. and the measure tool doesnt want to do it. I "illustrated in" what the cursor looks like (the screen shot doesnt capture the cursor). Im proficient at revit so its not a noob move like the wrong tool... but I cant figure this out.

Works fine in my Revit 9 section view. Cut a new section.

THanks a lot! the deleting of the section and a redraw did it. I gotta remember that trick more.
