Any ideas how a section view originating from a building floor plan, when placed on a sheet, refences back to a slab plan?

The section cut will refer to the first view it was placed on. So someone renamed your slab-plan.... To fix, cut a new section in the sme place on your floor plan and copy paste annotations from the old section to this one. Then delete. NOTE: The new section will still show in both views but the reference will be correct.
