I have been experimenting with the project browser organization and view names and title on sheets.  I have heard of making working views, production views, any view type you can think of.  Where these really are all the same "final view" right.  You have the final one that goes on a sheet, but you do all your work in a "working view".

I just wanted to get some feedback if any of you are willing. . . on ideas.  Are their working views for every view, just complext ones, plans?  When you are navigating the revit model, do you only go into working views?  Any thoughts on browser/sheet organization and/or naming conventions would be greatly appreciated.

Greg

We use all caps for everything in our drawings, so any working views I create are in standard case. That's how I tell the views apart.

i like it jt!!  simple ~ yet elegant!!

i've just titled the view name with a proceeding W_ or F_ , and since i'm currently the only drafting monkey here, i think i'm switching to jt's format...

Just to elaborate more what "gregroberson" is asking. I also recevie one file and when I switched to Default 3D View, it just created a "{3D - sivate}" view in palce a of just creating a "3D" view. I was trying to figure out how Default name is conataining the user name. Any suggestion please.

As of 2010 or 2011, Revit now creates user 3D views so that multiple users can have their own.  You can always rename this view then it will become a regular view in your browser available to all users.  Then the next time you click on the 3D view icon, Revit will create a new user 3D view with your user name.

Thanks for the valuable information. I was just wodering if there is some setting to to activate craeting User 3D view by clicking 3D icon. Because I have one particular project where it is happening and when I am just creating a fresh project using Standard Metric Template it is not creating User 3D views. I am using RAC 2011 & RAC 2012.

The difference is worksharing project vs stand alone.  Obviously, a stand alone project doesn't need individual default 3D views because there is only one user at a time.

I create a shared text parameter for views and sheet name 'View Type' and 'Sheet Type' and apply it to views and sheets.  I then create a project browser type to sort by View Type.  I assign my naming conventions via the View Templates.

This allows me a lot of flexibility in view organization.
