It's me again.  I have another question on my hospital project and splitting the casework from the base building.

I now have two distinct models with their own central files.  I've linked the base building model into the casework model and vice versa.  If I try to open both models in the same Revit session I get the following error message: "Cannot open the local model and the central model in the same Revit session.  You can either close one to open the other in the same Revit session, or open them in different Revit sessions."

So, it doesn't get much clearer than that, right?  I must open two Revit sessions if I want to view two models.  But, being a mistress of invention. . .does anyone know a "work around" for this problem, or if I just have to go with the Revit flow?

Thanks for any tips, help or pointers!

mb

hi maribeth,

unfortunately i think you just have to go with revit on this one. when you have a model linked into another, revit opens that file in the background. if you try to have it linked and opened at the same time, revit basically tries to open a file that it already has open and gets angry. if you want to have two revit models that are linked opened at the same time, you do have to use two revit sessions. or at least that should work... ive never actually tried it.

Thanks cdfrantzis!  Yeah, it works just fine if you have two Revit sessions open.  I was just wondering. . .

Thanks again!
