hello everyone, i'm new...... so, i try to make cutouts (staggered circles) on a certain surface. the problem is that while i can play with the diameter of the circle it is impossible to change the center spacing despite the fact that i can change the value!!!!!!! for example, i use material "chrome - polished" and i type: diameter: 0.02. now either i type: center spacing: 100 or 0.001 nothing is really changing when rendering...... i'm begging you, help...

i have encountered the same issue. i dont see how an image will help any more than the verbal description, but here you go.

clearly, the hole diameter reacts to the changes in value. the center-to-center spacing of the holes does *not* change, no matter how small or large a value is entered.

in the attached image, i have rendered a portion of a fence with a perforated metal panel behind it (don't ask, not the issue here!). the fence ballusters are 6" on center. i managed to get the hole diameters to approximately 1/2" (i had to use 1/16" to get that!). as you can see, the value i entered for center-to-center spacing (1/256") results in approximately 4" o.c. spacing. needless to say, this makes the panel way to opaque.

i think in the short term, i may try to make the holes a bit bigger and put a translucent film behind the panel.

it seems revit has an unresponsive parameter. any hacking/help would be appreciated.

This is an old thread but I wanted to add in what worked for me because I stumbled across this thread first when searching for an answer then thinking there was no solution.

I stopped playing around with the cutout sizes and center spacing since it was doing little to no help. No matter what variables I changed it didn't seem to make sense.

Instead, I chose the 'Custom' option in Cutouts Type, instead of chosing from the default selection revit gives you. I did an image search on google for perforated material/metal and found the image pattern that looked like the one I wanted. Saved the image. Chose that image for the 'Custom' cutout and got what I was looking for.

I didn't realize that there are literaly images online with cutouts in them that you can use instead of trying to master the cutout size and center spacing in revit. Also don't bother looking through revit folders for more cutout selections. I found nothing. lol

Edit: I forgot to add in, whatever pattern you find online, you can change the size of the repeating image pattern in revit. Clicking on the image will bring up the editor and you change the scale. the default is set to 1 square foot.
