I have created a new column family (my first experience of family creation/modification), but when I insert it into the model it will not adhere to the base level and top level parameters.  Instead, it will only insertion of the component on one given floor and then when you try to modify it using the constraints it either does not change, or jumps to a level that is unspecified.  It is also possible to set the base level above that of the top level.  I constrained the lower and upper reference planes when i created it.

I have attached the family file.

Personally, I would not create a new column or beam famiy from scratch.

There's a little bit of magic going on between the reference lines, reference planes and the column shape.

I would open and existing column family, rename it, make the changes and save it. (and make as few changes as possible).

Set the base level above the top level ??

What? not that I am aware of.

Thanks dgcad, I will give that a try.

I thought I would try setting the properties of the column to something impossible to see how bad the reference planes problem was, and sure enough it didn't even recognise the impossibility of what I was asking it.
