Is there a way to rotate the entire model in Revit? I need to do that to accomodate the relationship of the grid lines of the other building.

What do you have here? Is this a Revit model and another linked model or a CAD insert? Perhaps you should rotate the other linked or inserted object.

I've got to rotate the entire model to accomodate the new grid. It seems like the only elements I can't rotate is the foundation.

You didn't understand my question obviously because you didn't answer it. The grid is obviously not part of your model ... what is it? Rotate the grid to fit your model. Then rotate the view if you must!

I agree with WWhub, not engough info, what files are you working with? Search the help menu, rotate http://docs.autodesk.com/subscription/REVIT/2011/ENU/acad-search.html?searchData=rotate look under manage tab Project Location. search the help for Project Location, http://docs.autodesk.com/subscription/REVIT/2011/ENU/acad-search.html

After doing some investigation under the filter, it seems like only the foundation elements can't be rotated. Do you guys have the email address I can email the file to? It's 5mb file and it's too big to attach in this forum.

diesellam resolved your issue Your Foundation Walls are hosted to your Architercural walls. I selected the entire model in 3D view and went thru the filter unchecking each element until the rotation buttom became active, this told me which family was causing the problem. Once I found the problem child, I was able to figure out that it was a hosted element, this told me that it won't rotate unless the host is rotated. So I selected the entire model again and filtered out the Wall Foundation (the problem child) this activates the rotate button. I rotated the model and the foundation wall rotated with the host walls. I hope this helps

From my e-mail CADMAN6735, So, you are saying I just select everything in the 3d view EXCEPT the foundation, then the foundation will FOLLOW the walls when they get rotated? Thanks once again, -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What view you use to rotate your model is up to you, the solution to your problem is that the foundation wall is hosted to your Architectural wall. The foundation wall can not rotate without the Architectural wall. Beware of just rotating a model in 3D. View callouts, annotations, dims, etc... in other views will not be selected in the 3D view and their for will not rotate. I am only pointing out the hosting issue and why your rotation button was greyed out. Please, let keep all discussion in the forum... This way we all can benafit from each other. Thanks And happy to help.

I see. This part of the game is necessary. If this model is not rotated, when you export it to Navisworks, the orientation is all screwed up. For this reason, I can't rely on the views to dictate the rotation. The model itself has to be rotated physically in order to export out correctly.

I am not sure what game we are playing and I appologize if I handled this poorly. I answered your question about the ghosted rotate and I pointed you in the direction of how to rotate Revit projects in my post #6. If the game revolves around me wanting to keep the discussion in the forum, I believe that this is what the forum is for. Newer users may be having the same question and a more experianced user may find error in my explanation and correct us both and/or have a different technique in accomplishing your desired result.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, you have answered my question thoroughly. I really appreciate that. I was referring to the comments at the beginning of the post: rotating the views instead of rotating the model. This method only works within the Revit file; but for exporting the elements out of Revit to NavisWorks or Innovaya, the model has to be rotated in order to recognize the new orientation.

The only advise I can give you now is to open your revit file and detach from central and start playing with the rotation feature that I pointed out in post #6... Export out to NavisWorks and trial and error it. If you detach from central when you open the file you can experiment till you figure it out without fear of altering your project model. Once you have it figured you can apply it to your project model or make the detached model your new central. (as long as you havn't screwed up the detached model in some sort of rash modificaitons), everything in Revit has a ripple effect, so be carefull Good luck...

It now sounds like you want to rotate true north so that it matches other models. You don't need to rotate the model.
