Hello, all. I'm trying to create a wall-hosted component that is recessed into the wall. I added a wall opening, so now when I place the component, it goes into the wall perfectly from the front. However, the wall opening goes through the entire wall. This means that when I place the component, the wall is cut all the way through, regardless of the component's depth (6" in this particular case). Not good. Is there a better way to create a void for this component, or is there a way to control the depth of a wall opening so it will cut the opening on the placement side of the wall and let me control the depth of it? Thanks a bunch! -Jason

If this is a face based or wall based component, you should edit the family and add a void that cuts the host to the proper depth. If this is a non-hosted family, you can create a face-based, paremetric family that cuts it's host with a variable size and depth. It could be usable in many different applications.

This component will be wall-hosted, but I have no idea how to do what you are recommending, nor have I found any information about it. Can you tell me more about this or direct me to a help section page with the information? Thank you so much! You are a huge help. -Jason

Okay, here is the problem I have run into: I am trying to create a specialty equipment - wall hosted component and can create a void extrusion, but it will not cut the default wall included in the family type. It shows up as a yellow transparent mass that is in the wall, but it does not cut the wall. So, how do I specify that the void should "cut the host"? I don't see any commands like this anywhere. Can you tell me where I can find this? Thanks again for all the help. -Jason

did you saw the video? I don't think so.... Select the "Cut Geometry" tool then select the void then the wall.

Jason, See attached family. It is a parametric family can you can control the depth of the opening Se your depth (wall depth) to whatever depth you desired Philip HTH

Okay, I'm almost there, I think. Now that I know how to make the void cut the host, I cannot figure out how to dimension to the void itself. I'm trying to create parameters for the void size, but Revit will not let me snap to the edge of the void for some reason. -Jason

For things like curve, revit will never allow you to set parameter at the edge of the geometry, the other way that you can do (that i know of) is to set the parameter in the sketch mode, see my family and go to edit mode of the void, you should see i have a parameter inside the sketch mode.
