I am drawing a site plan at the moment. First I am sketching out the lines of the curbs and and parking spaces with detail lines in a site plan view (not a drafting view). I have the building placed on the site as a group made from detail lines as well. The view is currently set to true north and is drawn with north going straight up. I make a copy of the view and set the view to project north. I then go to the rotate project north tool and select the building line that I want to be going east/west so its easier to draw orthographically. When I click the building line it only rotates the building foot print and property lines. It leaves all my other details lines where they were and messes everything up (see screenshots). Any suggestions?

I don't think detail lines will rotate the way you're doing it because the rotate project north command is rotating the model. Detail lines are just 2d lines drawn on only one view and don't have any real location in the model. You have to use the rotate command on the modify tab for those types of elements. I wouldn't recommend using 2D lines for this because they will not be an actual part of your model.

Thank you cbieser for your response! What do you usually use to draw a site plan for the first time? I have always drawn the site plan with detail lines and then traced those lines with the site tools to make subregions on my topography later in the design phases. This is assuming that you don't have a site plan from a civil engineer or anything. Should I be drawing the parking and curb layout with subregions (and not detail lines) on topo this early in the design process? Would that be the better way to do this? I am up for suggestions as I want to learn the best way to do this. Thanks!

I begin the site using subregions because I can assign materials to them so if or when the boss/client wants to see a 3D shaded view I don't have to duplicate my work. I also use the parking space component and host it to the subregion so they also show up in 3D. You can always add points from the civil later.
