We set up certain fliter and want to manipulate its visibility. I am confused by the priority of this filter visibility turn on/off and the category turn on/off. I assumed the category turn on/off set the base setting, and filter turn on/off works base on that. Like: if Category A is turned on, then filters would turn off stuffs in category A that filtered by certain setting; if category A is turn off, then filters would turn on stuffs in cateogy A that filter by certain setting; the former is confirmed by my testing, the latter isn't. When I turn off Category A, I couldn't turn on some stuffs in A but filterd out by a filter. So when was the circumstances a filter should be used. and what's the priority among category turn on/off, workset turn on/off, filter turn on/off?

The priority is in what's set as off. If the category is turned off, nothing overides the off. If the workset is off, but the category is on, then the entire workset (including items in the category/ies that are on) is off. If filter is off, but categories are on, then items in the filter selection set are off. If you turned the model off, then no filters, categories, workset or link visibility options will turn it back on. I can't think of any exceptions to this rule. Priority is in what is off. Make sense? HTH,

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is never get involved in a land war in asia, but only slightly less well known is this! Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! |
