I am using Ravit MEP 2011. How can I find the default path for the Family editor in the projects. I have set up custom line weights and line styles in my familys and when I go to edit family in project it is opening a default template that I can not locate and resets all my lines weights and deletes some of my line styles as well. I have rft files set up for new families but can't locate where to edit this default template. Paul

Always remember this - the project rules! It doesn't matter what lineweights you set in the families unless the sub-category has never been used in your project / project template. Lineweights are finally controlled in the project - Manage tab / Object styles. So set it up in your project template. BTW - You can edit your own posts - click on the down-arrown next to the post number.

The template is set up and the families work beautiful in the project unless you need to edit it. When you edit it from the edit family tab in the project it then opens into in a template for editing that defaults to the original settings for line weights and deletes some my lines I have set up in the original family. So I either have to open the family and edit it and reload into project or redo the lines and line weights in the family editor it opened. So I am trying to find the default template for the Family editor in project so I can edit it to match all of my project and family setting. So when I edit family from project it will have the proper settings in it.

The family templates are located in '\\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\[Revit Version]\Imperial Templates', but editing that is not going to have any affect on your existing families, only new families. The object styles set in the family are saved in the family, Revit does not read the template they were created from to when you open them. So, if the family OS settings are different from the project things will look different in the family, but when it gets loaded back into the project they will be overridden. Having Object Styles set differently between projects and families can actually be pretty handy. We currently have our families set so all the different subcategories are different colors and lightweights so it's easy to tell what is what while editing, then they all get overridden in the project to black in the project. Lines being deleted is a different problem. I have no idea what is going on there, but I have a feeling that you are looking at something wrong. I have never seen Revit just randomly erase objects.
