I have a lighting and mech file from my eingineers who use Revit MEP. How do I get their items to cut my arch ceiling?

This is something that still doesn't work well in Revit. In order for a family to cut its host, the family has to reside in the same file as the host. So do you give the MEP guys your ceiling or do you cut holes in your ceiling for their objects? (Or do you duplicate their objects in your file?)

I have been providing their items in my file from markups. We are trying to integrate more and stop this duplicating stuff. I provide the ceiling, give to elec for lighting, then pass it off to mech, then both get back to me. Really cool, except for this right now.
