Hi guys.

I have been reading this forum for a little bit and it seems to be a real treasure trove of information.I am starting to use Revit Structures 2011 and have a few small questions.I know these are porbbaly baby simple, but I would love some help.Thanks.Ian(1) I have created many levels in my model for simply modeling purposes. My project browser looks like an explosion of different information. How can I move around the browser information, so maybe I can catalogue in a few sections and not all in this crazy list? I want to make things tidy !

(2) I want to tag some generic walls in section views. When i try and use a standard tag, it says wrong category ?(3) On plan view, my building has very crazy angles, i have cut some sections and in these sections, I want to make annotation dimensions from the face of wall to wall. Revit wont let me pick these lines ?

(4) I am creating a stairs at the moment, the stairs is normal and no problem to build, but the last 5 steps are curved in a arch.I have tried making curved RISERS but this always breaks my stairs. How can I make curved stair risers ?(5) I have to build a relatively complex steel beam roof with many different complex geometries. What is the best way of making this, setting up levels and work plans and start connecting them OR making a shape form in REVIT conceptual mass AND then building my beams around that?

(6) I want to produce the construction sheets with the typical German LOOKING UP view on drawings.Does anyone have any experience doing that?OK guys.It would be brilliant if I could get some help for these. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

Ian

First - welcome here.

Second - don't put so many questions in one post if you want answers.

  1. Search the forums for browser sort - there are many posts on how to do this.
  2. Every category in Revit has different category tags.  Not all category tags are loaded initially and you can create others.  You can read about Tags in your help.
  3. Revits dimensions are normally only to parallel oblects but you can also dimension to points.  Without seeing what you are tring to dimension, it sounds like these lines are not parallel.
  4. Several ways to do curved risers.   If the stair slope doesn't change, just change a straight riser line to a curved line.
  5. ....
  6. ....

In regards to question 6.

Mein Deutsch ist ein bischen schlecht, aber ich kann dir auch in Deutsch hilfen.

I am using a 'German' version of Revit Structure 2011, and it comes with a default 'Schalplan' view type which looks up.  If you select a view from the project browser, you may have a view-type setting which is predefined as 'Schalplan' as opposed to 'Grundriss.'  I guess you speak German.  If not, Schalplan means Formwork Plan, and Grundriss means Floor plan.

If you do not have these predefined views, it may be possible to set the view direction in a new view type.  Check the View Type to see which direciton the view is oriented (up or down.)
