hello i have substantial challenges running a project on my computer. normally revit runs fine, but when i am operating on another and a bigger scale on the models - the program responds poorly, lags and frequently crashes. it is obvious that this affects the efficiency.. luckily i am still a student, but i still want to have some small commercial projects. the project is a large land mass that i have divided into 4 already existing properties (via property line in topo menu). i have placed several instances of conceptual mass on the area within the properties. but i am not able to model it further in the 3d-view and the general response time of the program is not satisfying. please help me divide the project into smaller sub-projects that my program/my computer can handle properly.. see attached file for the image of the model of the whole area that i work with now. sincerely, harald

Try breaking up each building into separate revit files and then link them into a revit file which only contains your topo (should be able to copy-->paste aligned to new files). That should at the very least reduce your file size which might help with the speed.

I think if you better explain your project to us, we can help you a bit more. As cbieser mentioned, making the topography a separate file will really help if you have not done so. Also, from the images, it looks like your buildings are all the same...if this is true you may only want two separate files. In the site file, just setup different project locations to reflect the campus based locations for each building and publish those locations to the building model...saves a lot of work. We routinely break our models up. We currently have a project going on that has 19 separate Revit models, all using shared positioning. Again, I think we could use some more information here. How big are the buildings? (sf may warrant breaking the models up further) Is the site in a seperate file? Are the buildings all the same plan? Edited on: Tue, Dec 14, 2010 at 5:11:09 PM

thanks guys. actually, i was lucky with the facilities and logistics of this project, the client also purchased revit 64, and i was able to do most of the drafting at the clients place with a much more powerful machine than my own. but i save this recipe for further reference, lagging and hanging computer processing might happen again.. see this entry at my website: http://www.bassbanan.no/index.php?/selected-projectspaid/planning-proposal-housing-at-ytrebygda/ happy new year h
