Dear all, i am hoping you can help me. I have a huge project a international airport which i am going to model in revit2011 to give you a size of the project, around 80 sheets at A1 @ 1:100 are needed for one level. so i will need to split the model several times to make it more managable. so my question is i was thinking of having my grid as a separate model and not split several times. i what one grid file. if i have a separate grid revit model linked in to each split model and into the master model will the grid act as usual. i.e can i still use the column schedule tool and if i move the gird the column moves with it. etc please advise many thanks

Your columns should still host to the grids, but what I think you might have to do is a copy/monitor copy the grids so if the grids ever change your model will update.

I don't believe I would do this in this manner. Why not do the entire buliding shell and structure in one model? Individual interior areas might then be broken out as seperate linked projects as required... if rquired. Look into match lines and dependent plans. The entire first floor could be (should be) one model view no matter how many sheet it takes to show it.

hi WWHub, the size and complexity of the structure might be around 350mb and unmanagable. we have a small dead line and i need many modelers to be able to work at the same time.

A building of this size. surely has full breaks in the structure ( expansion) joints where no structure crosses. That would seem to be logical places to break the model. In essance, each portion is a seperate structure and I would probaly document seperately anyway. So those portions would have their own schedules anyway. So... I would probably have the grids in seperate models but numbered sequentially. I think the contractors would like this seperation also for construction purposes.
