On my sections I'd like to show the earth hatch pattern where it cuts through topography. But on my elevations I only want a heavy line indicating ground plane and not the earth pattern. I know I can edit my earth material to have no pattern when cut, but then it won't show up in section. So any tips on how to handle this? What I'm doing now is leaving the cut pattern as is and using a masking region on all my elevations. This region hides the earth hatch and I then make 3 of the 4 lines invisible and make the 4th line heavy to represent the ground plane. I'm just curious if there's a better way of doing this. Thanks!

I know that this is not always an option but you could move your elevation backward so it is looking at the profile of the topo rather than cutting through it...? The only other way that you could do it would be to make a view template, and shut off "Cut Pattern" in all elevation views, and if the line is not a high enough line weight also modify your Cut Projection in a view template for elevations.

Thanks for the reply. I like your second solution of handling it via view templates. But what I can't seem to find is how to control the cut hatch by view template. When I go into V/G Overrides and edit the cut pattern it seems to have no affect. Editing the cut line works well.

What version are you using. I know this is in there in 2011...but when you go to VG then click on the override for what ever you are overriding just uncheck "Visbile" when you click on "Cut Pattern" override.

I'm using 2010, but it should be the same. I see the area you describe to hide or edit the cut pattern. It's just that it doesn't have any affect on my view.

Try doing the same thing to "Site" and also try doing the same to the surface pattern and see if that does it.

Success! Thanks for the help! Changing the surface pattern did it. So I guess elevations don't actually cut through the ground plane? Doesn't make much sense to me, but it works. Thanks again!
