Is there a way to save, import or "transfer project standars" an entire family group (found in the project browser) out to another project?

Example:  i have loaded a whole lot of families into a project and customized a bunch too: example...all the lighting fixtures for a certain type of project (residential, commercial).  This ends up being a standard group of selections you want to have available in a new project.  Or some other strategy

I'm guessing that there is probably a better way than this, but you could try:

1 - Create an instance of each family that you want to export.  Create one instance of each type within each family.  It doesn't matter where or how you create them, as long is it is located somewhere in the project.

2 - Save the project file and then link it into the project that you want to transfer the families to.

3 - Convert the linked project to a group by clicking on it and then hitting "Bind Link".

4 - All of the families in the link should now appear in the project browser.  You can delete the group and the families will still be present.

Hopefully that gets the job done for you.

kbeegles' method will work to get your families into current projects, but if you're going to need them in every new project you will need to put them into your project template.

Agreed...template is definitely the way to go with new projects.
