Hi! I have a conceptual mass on my ceiling and I was wondering how I can add lights to it - either through compoment in reflected ceiling plan in the project or through the mass family (i.e click on the mass and edit family). I thought I could just place the lights on the mass similar to placing lights on the ceiling, but no such luck . . . Help!

Is your ceiling a strange wavy form and that is why you used a conceptural mass? Otherwise - don't do that. Most (not all) components are hosted, thus you can't place a ceiling hosted light on a mass. If your ceiling is basically flat, create it as a ceiling. If it undulates, you will probably have to find non-hosted lights that you can place in space.

Yes, its wavy, like ripples in water. OKay, so look for non-hosted lights correct? Any suggestions where to find those?

I believe you can 'unhost' lights by editing and removing the host. Have done this in the past

If a light was created from a hosted template, you can not change it to non-hosted. Perhaps Erik had a nested family which was non-hosted to begin with.

I can't unhost the lights that come with Revit so that the mass is the new host. What's another way? I need track and recessed lighting my in ceiling mass.

As I wrote earlier, you will have to create or find un-hosted families. I suggest you build your own using a non-hosted lighting template. There are templates for linear and point source lights. But if you look in the downloads, you will find some that you can use or modify. One was described as: Traditional Style mini pendant based off Murray Feiss P1065. (NOT CEILING BASED, top connection is adjustable, base is not). Light fixture symbol with parametric label visible from reflected ceiling plan only. And that took all of 3 minutes to find....

I am sorry, I am new to Revit and have been searching everywhere for non-hosted light fixtures. I know you posted "Traditional Style mini pendant based off Murray Feiss P1065" that was non hosted but I need a track lights and spot lights and cannot find any. I have tried copying them into that file but it doesn't work... I don't know what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
