When we are trying to coordinate with our structural consultant, there is an issue that happens when the consultant copy/monitor’s our walls and their copied walls end up in a different location than the architectural. See example attached. Architectural model: 6.25” tiltwall with 4” furring on inside = 10.25” thickness. Walls drawn using ‘core face – exterior’ (outside face of conc.) Structural consultant: using wall type that is just the 6.25” concrete (no furring). When they copy/monitor with that wall type, it defaults the location to the center of the wall which is 2” off of where it should be (shown in blue). I would think that since the wall was drawn using ‘core face-exterior’ or ‘finish face-exterior’, the copy monitor process would recognize that and put the copied wall in the same place. Up till now, the structural consultant has had to move their copied wall into position, but that is another thing that needs to be checked and can lead to conflicts. Does anyone know of a way for it to copy into the correct place without needing to move it later?
Thank you. Tom

The copy monitor process seems still to be clumsy. If you place your walls at center of core, does that help? We purposly model these walls as multiples. The structural wall and then the furred and finished wall. That means we have to join these walls so that doors/windows work but we don't have location problems.

No, same problem. We have been having an internal debate as to whether we model the interior furring as a separate wall, but as you mentioned, that leads to more issues to deal with. Even if we did, this same issue would happen with a CMU wall that has 7/8" stucco on the outside. When structure copies with just CMU, their wall will be 7/16" off.

I know that structural only wants to show structural.... but other than visual, how does it matter if they CM the whole wall? Only the core is used in their calculations.

We do not want non-structural items to show up in the printed structural drawing sheets. I suppose they could copy monitor the whole wall, but they would have to filter out the furring, stucco, etc. somehow. I don't think you can filter part of a wall?
