Go to Home > Component then a "Load Family" button will appear, click on that and select the family you want.

If you want to change the materials of your family, you will have to do it INSIDE the proyect.

Thats why is good to load the families to a test proyect ( for the appareance of that family) to check the rendering and/or the fills. My two cents.
