hey, im trying to draw a wall constructed from standard sized panels, but i would like revit to draw in the panels at their nominal width and include the jointing section between each panel and internal framing to the perimeters of the panels. Does anyone know how i can do this? Can anyone tell me how I can also make the each panel have the same structure around its edge so that if one end (custom made panel) needs to be adjusted in length it will automatically adjust the internal structure to suit? I have used repeating details before, i guess im looking for the same idea but take it to the next level for a standard sized panel and fully in 3D. It would also be good if i could use this to generate schedules of structural members. Sorry if this is really vague, im pretty new to revit and unsure if it can even do this, but it would save lots of time when i get to do the manufacturing panel drawings if all the panels were already automatically set up. thanks in advance, tom

You could use the curtain wall tool and change the system panels to the wall type you want, with the jointing pieces as the mullions might work, then use the curtain panel/curtain system schedule tools

ok i have managed to set up the curtain walls as the panels, with the mullions set up as the jointing pieces. however i now have a bigger problem - i cant put windows into it! i need to have the same flexibility with my windows as i have on a "normal" wall. at present, it seems to only want to add windows from mullion to mullion which is no good at present. any suggestions. by the way thanks for the help so far

I'm sorry but I just don't go along with this process. This problem has been discussed several times before. Have you researched the other posts? If you had, you would have found the same curtain wall suggestions and then the window and door problems. I would not use a curtain wall but rather a regular wall. For the vertical joints, I would use full depth vertical reveals. Yes... You will have to place those manually if you actually want to model them. But maybe instead, I would just use a wall surface pattern that has your vertical lines in it at the correct spacing. Remember, you don't need to model where a simple surface pattern will tell you what you need. Why do you need any "internal structure" THat never needs to be modeled and can be added as detail elements. For panel schedules and counts, you could have a curtain wall in the same location that has transparent panels. The panels would be your proxy count for the concrete panels.

Sorry WWHub, forget I suggested creating entirely different families (which in hindsight would be a pain) but I don't see why the system panels could not be exchanged for a wall type & insert normal doors & windows? Floors & roofs interact with the curtain wall panels, the only problem I can see is that the roofs cut the panels slightly differently. What am I missing?

Matthew, the problem is at the edges of panels. Doors and even windows sometimes cross the panel edges in precast walls. You just can't do this easily using a CW system.

yeah thats my problem, i was able to change the panel to a wall, but then the wall is contrained to the internal line of the top and bottom and side mullions and it wont overlap these - i need them to overlap. also it wont let a window cross a "mullion" and i can see no way to trim a mullion. so it looks like the only way to do this is to model a parametric panel and place them individually. i need it all modelled for other reasons, detail lines arent good enough, i need to show the entire model as a wireframe to show all components. thanks for all the help.
