I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice. What is the purpose of the Shared Parameters text file? I am running a large project in revit and coordinating with MEP, Structural, and our Interiors Architect. One of my consultants was asking if I had set up that file yet but I have not seen the use for it. Has anyone used the shared parameters for multiple revit files and if so what kind of information have you sued it for? Thanks in advance! Mandy

Shared parameters are required for any element information that needs to be exported or tagged. More than likely, you will eventually need to create some new shared parameters beyond what is already in your families or templates so learn how to create them and where they are used. You can read more about these in your HELP.

The clue is in the "Shared" part of "Shared Parameters". They really come into their own when you need to use the same parameters in different Revit projects. Each instance of Revit can point to the same Shared Parameters text file and (consequently) pick up the same parameter definitons. Regards, Ian

I have read through the help but I am in particular interested in knowing what information users find most useful to create shared parameters for. Seems like information related to sheets and the title bock is one so consultants can easily pull that information in. So just to clarify revitzone, is what you are saying is that if I add parameters to families and want my consultants to be able to pull that same information via tagging they need to be on a shared parameter and import the parameters from the text file? Maybe it explains that and I just missed it in the help but that certainly makes sense. Thanks for the advice guys!

It's for tagging and scheduling more than anything. For example, if you want to create a foundation family and tag it with LIVE information instead of say 'Type Name' then you can use a shared paramter file for this.
You can also add this to add information to elements that revit does not include through project parameters.
