NEVER use Mass to create objects, MASSES should only be used to create "Mass studies" or create complicated forms where you can apply floors, walls, roofs and curtain systems in those faces. About the second issue, there must be something related to the "View Range" in that plan view.

You will probably want to use a plan region, to see through an opening to areas below which you otherwise wouldn't want showing in the rest of your floorplan. Plan regions let you set unique view depths in the boundaries you draw. I wouldn't suggest overusing them--they'll add confusion and become burdensome. for making a specific item, say, dotted when cut, you can select and right click on the item, go to override graphics by view, by element, then you can change the cut line weight, color, or pattern. As it will display on that view only. Otherwise you could edit general rules for lineweights/type in Object Styles. to see you windows, your cut plane has to hit them. try 4'
