i try to do render with normal to high settings like this: image precision 7- 1st reflection to 10 then all rest reflection and transparency options low as they will go- enable soft shadows precision to 10- check illumination with the first two set to 7 and the third set to 2 it goes up to 50% or maybe some more and then my computer shuts down.. notice that I close all programs and even folders when I start rendering. I have toshiba windows xp 7.any ideas??

seems to be low ram... use draft or low settings copied to custom, there add antialias to 5 or 6, scroll down, there increase finalgather bounces to 5, and if is interior, set portal lights on doors, windows and curtainwalls. That will solve the problem. And also, try to no go over 20mbps ( it says on the render dialog, at least for my computer 20 is the top :S) OR buy tons of ram.

hello nastyclown I did it like you said but the image quality isnt really good with those settings.. its basically low with just higher image presicion.. what I like it its when it has like 10 of shadows and reflections(it looks really good until half but then its overloaded and shuts down) i have ram memory 3GB, whats the appropriate size for rendering to this volumes? so on any computer would crush and shut down or its just windows?

you can always set the size of the image to lower values (just a little bit, to make it work). Try the medium setting with higher antialias, and a sun that cast ilumination on the whole interior. Anda again, 5 bounces of final gather. Also win 7 eats 1 gb of memory in idle :S wich is not good at all to rendering.

vista 32bit, which I think you have on your laptop(?) has a maximum memory of 4 gigs. This is subtracted from by the video card ram. sooo, you don't have any room for improvement here. Seeing how you are using vista (a memory hog) you can disable visual themes and other widgets and gadgets that take up system resources. Close all unneeded programs when you render.

yeah I close all programs while rendering.. so I guess Im putting on too high qualities. although I think I figured out the best my computer can take and also if the image is like 100KB I think I can go more to the high quality settings thanks alot for your information )
