my work involves small scale residential projects (extensions and new builds) my work flow is basically....... firstly i prepare a full set of existing plans and elevations as one revit project and then i prepare a set of planning drawings saved as a second revit project and then on some jobs i then prepare a set of construction or building regulation drawings again as a separate file on which i want to use some of the plans from the first file, the existing plans and elevations project. i have sometimes exported views from the first project as dwg's and then imported them into the required project but this seems a little contrived and the colours are never as i want them. i wonder if it is possible to use specific views from one projects (ie a floor plan) and bring them into new separate revit projects? any ideas would be gratefully received....

How about opening the existing file and saving it as your new project - then use what you want.....and add to it as needed?

WWHub - that is exactly what i do when i go from proposed planning drawings to building regulation drawings. the problem is that on the building regulation drawings (which show any modifications not the original layout) i still want to include the existing plans which are on the first set of drawings.

Drawings... you mean CAD?... No - I see you mean revit from your first post.... Again... why not start with your standard project and add your "existing" in that file - not a seperate file. It could be in a "design option" which is really existing and you control everting through VG. Or... Build your "existing" in this project in a different location ... a seperate building. Again - all in this one project.

Thanks WWHub - i think i need to research "design options" as i have not used these previoulsy but sounds like this could be a way forward and thus keep all 3 options in one revit project??

Here is an intro on Design Options.... http://www.revitzone.com/revit-fundamentals/117-design-options-an-introduction Can I please ask why you save different Revit Project files for each stage of your project? I try to keep my project in one master file- right from concept study through to working drawings. But I am always very interested to hear how others use Revit in different ways and why so. Many thanks Regards, Ian
