HI THERE I HAVE A SECTION THAT CUTS THROUGH SOME PRIMARY AND SECONDARY BEAMS. I WANT TO SHOW THEM IN A DIFFERENT LINEWEIGHT BUT GOING INTO THE GRAPHICS OVERRIDE WILL NOT LET ME DO SO. I CAN CHANGE LINEWEIGHTS AND COLOURS FOR ALL OF THE FRAMING ELEMENTS, BUT IF I CHANGE THE LINEWEIGHT OR COLOUR FOR JUST PRIMARY BEAMS IT DOESN'T SEEM TO WORK. IS IT POSSIBLE TO SHOW PRIMARY & SECONDARY BEAMS DIFFERENTLY ON A SECTION?

You could use the linework tool to override in the section view - I'm sure there's an easier solutions - but that's all that I can see. M.

over-ride by element is the only way i have found to do it. This for me is one of the big problems with revit, that it is not customisable enough. For example: in a section all structural framing elements are by default shown with the same lineweight. The ISO standards say that an r.c. beam in section should be shown with a much thicker line than an steel beam in section. on a plan the standard that we use at my company says that an existing steel beam should be shown as a much thinner line than a new steel beam (we fudged this by making existing beams 'primary' and new beams 'tertiary' and changing the way each prints out on plan) has anyone found a way of putting different beams on different 'layers' an being able to make all elements on a certain layer print out in a particular way in plan and in section? Thanks for your help

If you had the patience, you could modify the family and add a sub-category. Assign an instance parameter primary/secondary and turn on/off elements in main category vs sub-category. This would work and might be worthwhile.
