I was wondering if it possible to 'pick' lines from a dxf geometry to create a 3d geometry of individual structural members.
This would be very useful for analysis --> rapid documentation

You can trace the lines with structural framing set the appropriate profile to generate the framing.
Picking is not possible as structural framing needs a start and end point in order to define the profile direction, if using the pick tool i'd imagine the structural framing wouldn't know which end your want to be which. Not much more work though.
You also need to define the work plane first before drawing the structural framing. Best to use reference planes as they can be rotated as needed to change hosts should you need to.
