I am trying to create a window bench seat that has 45 degree angled benchs of the base length fo the bench. I would like it so I can choose the lengths of all three sections of the bench to match the building walls where I am placing them

I cannot seem to get it correct when creating the family. when I change the length of the angled piece or the base piece the width seems to change as well.

any advice would be helpful

For something like this, why don't you just do an in-place family?  ... or are there more than one?

Post your family and I'm sure someone can look at it

attached should be the family that I created. or at least started. its a rather basic exstrusion so I can make sure it can do what I want it to do before I add any detail.

OK - I looked at your family.  Please do the following:

  1. Delete teh extrusion.  When you do this you will see the 1'-4" width dimensions go away.  These should be placed to the reference planes first before addingforms.
  2. Add the width dimensions
  3. Flex this before adding forms by changing leg length to 2'.  Notice that the wrong planes move.
  4. Undo the flex and pin those two planes.  (edited tow to two)
  5. Now flex again - if everything moved right then add your geometry.

thank you very helpful. I noticed I still have a problem when I try to change the 'base length.' the width then changes?

Keep working with your reference planes and label dimensions flexing the object before you add the elements.  It needs to flex correctly first.  Did you do item 4?

yes I did do item 4. the pinning did work for the leg length. for the base length shall I try the same? not sure which ref plane to pin. being that when I want to increase or decrease the length on the base lenght i would like it to do so equally from each side.
