Forgive me if I use the ADT terminology, but I am new to this.....I am trying to recreate a set of drawings of a house that my office did in ADT as a starting point. I have the first floor walls up. This is CMU and concrete construction BTW. My top of tie beam is at 11'-8" AFF and it is a 12" tie beam. I have the top of CMU walls at 10'-8" and I was going to create a 12" tie beam (thus 11'-8" T.O.T.B.). My first quesiton is, can I create a cmu wall with a tie beam built into it, or do I have to do it from 2 pieces (tie beam sits on top of cmu wall)??? Now I'm doing it as 2 separate piece right now but I cannot get the tie beam to sit on top of the cmu wall. I cannot get my working plane to be at 10'-8" AFF so I can just draw in my tie beam in plan view. I feel like I have to give it some type of UCS command to get my working plane to the elevation it needs to be at and then make my UCS a "world" view (as in ADT). Please help.

create a new level at 10'-8",call it Tie Beam or whatever you'd like. go to the plan view for the new level and draw your beam.

You can set T.O.W at 11'-8" when you place your beam from T.O.W. plan view it will place the T.O.B. at T.O.W., You can adjust the level of the beam if needed by selecting the beam going to its properties and adjust it's elevation parameter. The wall will not prevent the beam from being placed. If you want to show and or cut a beam pocket into the wall you will need to use "Create' to make a void and use that void to cut the pocket into the wall.
