In Revit 2009, I have cabinets which have variable characters at the end of their model number based on whether or not the ends are finished and what length the end panels are.

I am trying to populate a Model parameter using three other parameters: A - which is a type parameter, and B & C - which are both instance parameters.

Basically, I looking to populate the Model value based on listing ABC together (ex. A=123A43, B=d, C=4 - Model  =123A43d4) but am not sure if there is any syntax to accomplish this.

Any suggestions?

Also, I haven't researched this yet, but I am wondering if I can build a tag based on the A B & C values if I cannot get the formula to work.

Thanks in advance for any input; I'm still learning a lot about Revit and don't quite understand everything, so please respond slow and loud. Winking

Not sure what you are asking but here are a couple of important issues:

There are not text formulas available in Revit so you can not concatenate.

You can not use an instance parameter in a type parameter formula.

Any shared parameter can be read by a tag but it must be shared.

Thanks for the input; I was aware of the last two, I was just hoping that there was a way to add a text formula.  It seems like such an easy thing to do compared to the formulas I've already written.

The only text formula you can create is fixed text.

For instance in a text parameter add in the formula field "Test" with the inverted comma's and the value would then be locked as Test.

But that's about it...

You can also use another text parameter, but that's about as useful as just entering text.

I think I found a work around to my problem and it involves multi-category tags.

Here is what I'm trying to do:

I have a wood cabinet that has a certain product number, say 123A456B where the last two characters can be variable (one is based on the end panel dimension and the other is whether or not the ends needs to be stained).

I successfully created two separate formulas for each of the variables in the product number and in my initial post I was hoping to build the "Product Number" based on the three other parameters: 123A45, 6, & B.

Since it seems that this is not possible, I looked at creating a Tag using these three parameters so that on my elevation drawing, I can Tag my cabinet and have the correct product number show.  This has worked quite well, and if I make any changes to the end panels, the product number changes accordingly.
